American Packaging Corporation Donates $100K to Hole in the Wall Gang Camp’s Virtual Celebration

Ashford, Conn., September 13, 2021 — A longtime supporter of Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, American Packaging Corporation (APC) proudly served as a presenting sponsor of Many Hearts, One Dream: A “Hole” Celebration of Camp Magic, a star-studded, streaming fundraising event on Sept. 12. In addition to a $50,000 sponsorship, APC donated $50,000 to support sending 20 children to camp for a weeklong session and continued a longstanding fundraising tradition of rallying vendors, partners and friends who have raised millions of dollars for Hole in the Wall’s year-round programs for children with serious illnesses and their families.

This year’s virtual celebration combined Hole in the Wall Gang Camp’s three largest annual fundraising events — the Fandango Benefit Gala, Beantown Bash and Big Apple Bash — into one unified fundraising event. For many years, APC has co-chaired the Big Apple Bash with LiDestri Food and Drink, while Ken’s Foods in Boston has chaired the Beantown Bash. Both events collectively have raised more than $35 million over three decades. In recognition of this historic generosity, the camp presented the supporters of these two events with Hole in the Wall’s highest honor — the Most Wanted Award — during this year’s virtual celebration.

“Over the years, American Packaging Corporation and the Schottland family have rallied an extraordinary community to bring hope and ‘a different kind of healing’ to the lives of children with serious illnesses and their families,” Hole in the Wall Gang Camp Chief Executive Officer Jimmy Canton said. “Their generosity humbles us, and their loyalty inspires us as we take Paul Newman’s dream to exciting new places.”

In 1988, renowned actor and philanthropist Paul Newman founded Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut to provide a special hideout where children with serious illnesses could simply be kids. Over the years, Hole in the Wall’s service scope has evolved into year-round programming at its facility in Ashford, Connecticut, in more than 40 hospitals and clinics, directly in camper homes and communities, and through other outreach activities across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic. All programming is provided free of charge thanks to the support of thousands of donors each year.

Amid COVID-19, Hole in the Wall has modified and resumed its in-person programming while continuing to offer a wide array of virtual and alternative experiences that have allowed the camp to continue safely serving thousands of children with serious illnesses and their family members throughout the pandemic.

“We are thrilled that our amazing employees, customers and networks have joined with us to support an incredible organization,” American Packaging Corporation CEO Peter Schottland said. “Seeing the camp’s programs and initiatives in action makes us proud to be part of the Hole in the Wall family and the incredible community Paul Newman started more than 30 years ago.”
